Epsom Derby

Just a few days until the Blue Riband of racing so let's take a look at the field. There was always a doubt about the participation of Casual Conquest, but after confirmation this one heads the ante-post betting. He is a deserved favourite having slaughtered his rivals in the main Irish trial. Jim Bolger, or his owners, have now decided to run New Approach and this has caused quite a stir in the racing world. To be honest I have backed this one a while ago at shorter odds. However three classics in a month may be too much for this one. Curtain Call has to be the selection. Trained in Ireland in his juvenile days, he was backed by his owners at 66/1 for Saturday's race following an impressive win in a Group Two event at the Curragh. The form has worked out well and the stable oozes confidence.

  • The Derby is always a market driven race so selection
really should be made at this time.

After the stats I left yesterday I have looked through
the Derby and given Dr Fremantle my vote with Curtain Call a close second.

This is dependent on the ground and the markets on the day.

I do agree that LC Stables are making the point rather clear though!

  • Hi Noel

I'm proberly the only one who thinks this, well the only fox anyway.
Frozen Fire...why you mad fox you might ask?
well,i think frozen fire has ran the best trial for the derby , it was also in the dante which has proved one of the best pointers for the derby in the past.
ok, tartan bearer beat frozen fire in the dante, but only just, and tartan bearer also had the benefit of a run behind it.
i think frozen fire ran a bit green and only picked up again when tartan bearer came alongside.
my thoughts are frozen fire will come on a lot for that run as he still looked a big baby and Aiden will have left plenty to work on for the big day. At around 20/1 i think he's big value e/w.
i know johnny murtagh has picked king of rome to ride, but i think he might just have picked the wrong one, good or soft frozen fire won't mind the going and he's the one for me.
    fingers crossed.
