Monday's selections both ran well...

But couldn't quite reach the frame. This is the last update until saturday as we are going away on a cricket tour for a few days. (Danny is playing, not me obviously). So let's try and leave you with a couple of winners. We gave Smetana(3.20 Chep) last time out but he ran in snatches. He's been dropped a couple of pounds and will certainly improve for the run. Davenport looks a good thing in the 3.50. He won smoothly last time out and has been successful on soft in the past, off the same mark as today. As Danny's full name is Daniel Thomas Bridges, we will have to go for his namesake in the 3.10 at Redcar. Daniel Thomas won well enough last time and is still on a fair mark on his best form.

A busy bank holliday...

Favourite Girl in the Redcar opener is our first selection. The Easterby filly was very green on debut but got the hang of things late on and should improve. Our second choice goes in the 2.40, Bahama Baileys. Mark Johnston's charge is the highest rated and ran a solid race last time out.

Fleeting Spirit looks a sprint star.

She did us a nice favour on saturday and can go far in this sphere. On to Sunday and we have decided on Kitty Matcham in the Irish 1000 gns. She ran no sort of a race in the Newmarket version but a lot of the stables runners need an oouting and she has strong claims on last season's form. Loveinanelevator in the 5.50 at Newmarket is our second selection. She has contested three very good maidens and some of the horses that finished around her are now rated higher than 66.

Still out of sorts....

What a terrific day of racing. It is hard to know where to start. At Haydock we like the look of Duntulm in the 3.05. This one lost so much ground at the start but still managed to win a shade cleverley and can follow up today. In the 3.35 Fleeting Spirit is given the nod. Showed herself to be a top juvenile when beating the colts last season. In the Irish Guineas we will stick with New Approach. The top juvenile colt last season can beat his Newmarket conqueror with a more restraned ride today.

A dreadful effort on Thursday...

Some great racing today and our first selection is Dingaan in the 4.05 at Newmarket. We selected this one last time out as he is really well handicapped at present but he ran poorly. we're hoping for better today. An each-way choice in the 5.05 at newcastle Roman History. This is not the most consistent of oerformers but has asqueak on the pick of last season's efforts.

A blank wednesday....

Let's hope they all go ahead today. Majeen in the 3.35 at Haydock is our first choice. His maiden form is working out well and the handicapper hasn't been too harsh. In the 8.40 at Salisbury Sleepy Hollow should go in again after winning in a canter last time out.

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Just getting by at present.

We have a past selection running today, Jane Of Arc who didn't manage a victory last season when seemingly well handicapped. Starting this campaign off a mark of 54 she should be capable of picking up the odd prize or two. The superbly bred Island Vista looks to have a great chance in the 8.10 at Sandown. She ran a race full of promise on her debut and will appreciate this longer trip.

Thank god for Gorsoon

The losing run came to end on Monday and we have a few strong fancies for today. The first is in the 4.20 at Beverley Excape. David Elsworth's charge won well at windsor last time despite interference and he can follow up under a penalty. The second choice is ChipN Pin in the 4.40 at Musselburgh. She was well supported on her return but didn't stay the trip. Back over a mile and a half off a decent mark she should go close. At Southwell Queens's Speech should land the 2.30. John Gosden's filly showed her best form at Wolverhampton last week and there could be more to come.

A bit of a poor run at present..

Let's see if we can put it right today. We do like the look of Russian Empress in the 8.10 at Windsor. She is a full sister to one of my favourite horses Russian Rhythm and is reported in good order for her debut. In the 8.40 race Good Gorsoon is our second selection. the Barry Hills trained colt ran well at Chester last time and this hard pulling type should appreciate the drop back to five.

Sorry Karen....

No joy at Doncaster last night and tricky racing today. However there are a couple at Ripon we like. The first is Cool Sonata in the 2.40. Mel Brittain has had a form revival this season and this daugter of One Cool Cat was very green on her debut but still ran well. She will improve tons and will appreciate the longer trip. The second selection is Goodbye Mr Bond in the 4.10. He shaped with promise on his return from a poor draw and is well treated on his best form.

So close on Friday...

Let's see if we can do a bit better on saturday. With some friends going to Doncaster we have taken a good look at the card and El Dececy stands out in the opener. The trainer had five declared at the five day stage and this one always looked the pick. He has fallen down the ratings and will have no problem with ground or trip. He's A Humbug in the 7.45 is a similar type having gone well in better company and now dropped to a very tempting mark. In the 3.20 at Newbury Colony is expected to improve on his debut run and should follow up that victory.

Tartan Bearer does the business...

And the price was amazing. Now for Friday, just the one from York, Laterley in the 4.55. Tom Tate is flying at present and this one ran a terrfic race on his return and can only improve. Great Art in the first at Newbury is our second selection. The trainer usually introduces some top juveniles just about now and this one boasts an excellent pedigree.

Well done to young William for riding out his claim.

Lush Lashes impressive....

We could have seen the Oaks winner today. Now what about the Derby? Tartan Bearer is the one for us in the Dante at 2.40. he showed an impressive turn of foot to land his maiden and we reckon there is plenty more to come. We are also selectiong a Michael Stoute runner at Salisbury Quotation in the first. On her debut effort last season she should be a cut above these rivals.

This is what it's all about

A superb card at York and the best bet looks to be Tomorrow's World in the 4.55. Sir Michael excells with this type. He is bred to be very special and off this sort of mark he must go close if fit. In the 2.40 we have a couple of talking horses but we prefer the solid form claims of Lush Lashes who ran a blinder in the guineas. In the 3.10 Hoh Mike is the pick having taken on the best last year and running with credit evry time.

A few strange results on Monday

But it did look difficult. Tuesday is no better and just two tentative choices today. The first is Chapter in the 4.40 at Brighton. He was rated in the mid to late sixties acouple of seasons back and ran well under similar conditions at Warwick on his penuiltimate start. We will give another chance to Libertytyne in the 5.50 at Great Leighs. The form of her Wolverhampton run is rock solid and if she can repeat that effort tonight she will be hard to beat.

A mixed day...

Washington Irving was a major disappointment, but Appollo Creed did the business and was available at 10's in the moring. Prretty poor fair today but we do like the look of Noseda's newcomer Royal Destination in the 3.30 at Yarmouth. He isd superbly bred and as with most of the stables runners he should know his job. Our only other selection is Guest Connections in the 4.50 at Redcar. He has gone well over course and distance and takes a step down in class.

Some terrific racing for a Sunday...

We have a decent Derby trial at Leopardstown and we will give the vote to Washington Irving. He was badly in need of his seasonal debut and will improve leaps and bounds. In The Poule D'Essai des Poulains (Thats easy for you to say) the 2.50 at Longchamp, we have a sneaky feeling for Yorktown. He bounced back to winning ways in March and may get into a place at a big price. Over the jumps here we like the look of Appollo Creed in the 4.00 at Uttoxeter. It is a very poor race and having not taken to fences he should enjoy the return to the smaller obstacles off what looks a very lenient mark. Finally Valleyofthedolls could be a cut above her rivals in the bumper at 5.00. She has a superb pedigree and hails from a yard that can get one ready first time out.

A few old favourites out today...

We will start with Spanish Moon in the opener at Ascot. Michael has always held this one in very high regard. Obviously he has had training problems but if back to his best, who knows? Jamboretta has already paid his way for us and can go in again despite the rise in weights in the 1.45. In the 2.00 at Haydock we are taking a chance with Ingratitude. Nicky Henderson has three in the contest and on the pick of his form Ingratitude would have a chance despite being out of the handicap.

Not so hot at present...

Past selections are winning, which is annoying, but onwards and hopefully upwards. Three selections on friday. At Chester, two selections, our first is Heywood in the 1.45. The Nicholls' runner has gone close off higher marks and went close last season over course and distance on similar ground. Red Gala in the 2.45 is our second choice. Stoutey's charge looked in need of his return run and will also appreciate the faster ground. We missed Vardouro last time out when it cruised to victory ,we will select this one for a follow up win.

Chester proving difficult...

But we do have a fancy for Vivaldi in the 2.45. A game winner over a mile last season, today's trip should be much more to his liking. In the 3.00 at Goodwood Dingaan looks set for a good run. Looking slightly in need of the outing, he wasn't beaten far in a strong race last time and runs off the same mark.

More classic clues?

A terrific card at Chester and Laughter can enhance her Oaks claims with a victory in the 2.15. Sir Michael's filly was an impressive debut winner and is expected to make a much better three-year-old. Stoutey can also land the 4.35 with Patkai. The form of his run in a conditions race last time out is working out well and this longer trip should suit.

Another couple of poor efforts.

But it was a tricky day. On Tuesday there appears to be a solid each-way proposition in the 4.40 at Chepstow, Gilded Youth who has now droopped down to a very handy mark and the stable is in much better form. In the 8.05 at Catterick Mr Rooney is expected to go close. Dandy's charge is running off a decent mark and showed improved form last time out.

Monday, May 05, 2008

A busy bank holiday

At Warwick Smetana could go well at decnt odds in the 5.15. Hughie Horrison's charge is now over the proper trip and gets in here on a decnt mark for handicap debut. In the 4.15 we are taking a chance with the Fanshawe debutante Fonda. A very expensive two-year-old, he should know what is required first time out.

Saturday, May 03, 2008

What a card at Newmarket...

The highlight is of course the 2000 gns and we can't get away from New Approach. He beat the best last season and is reported in great shape for his return. In the 2.10 Arctic Cape is one that could go close. Mark Johnston's charge pulled very hard last time and if he can settle better today he should make a bold bid. Our third choice on the card is Tajneed in the 4.00. A very impressive winner at ripon last time and is certainly on the upgrade.

Thursday, May 01, 2008

Two poor efforts on Thursday...

Let's do better today. Lille Ida was a progressive type last season and was highly tried on her return. she will find this company less taxing and should go close in the 3.10 at Lingfield. Any juvenile that cost over 50 grand in the Bryan Smart yard is usually decent so Go Nani Go is given the verdict in the opener at Musselburgh.

Our final Ripon jockey picture, David Allan gets some advice from Danny...

Small profit on Wednesday....

Tricky today but we do have a couple of selections. In the 4.20 at Folkestone Libertytyne could be on a very favourable mark. Her best form last year was over this trip and two of the horses that finished ahead have run well since off higher marks. Foresight in the 4.50 race is the second choice. This one ran well in a better race at Newbury and this event will not take too much winning.

Another terrific young jockey in Michael J Stainton..
